North Gulf Coast

Texas' North Gulf Coast region is centered on Houston and its surrounding metro area, with lots to see and do in and around the state's largest city. Farther afield, smaller towns and scenic spots enhance the experience for visitors to the area.

Many events from Texas' War of Independence happened here, remembered at Goliad, Gonzales, at the San Jacinto Battleground site and elsewhere around the region. Other sites of historical interest dot the region, including two dedicated to Stephen F. Austin. Science buffs will also love this area, which features Space Center Houston, NASA's official visitor center and family fun spot. The Houston Zoo, Downtown Aquarium, Arboretum and Nature Center, and Museum of Natural Science cater to those with an interest in flora and fauna.
